More Than 2,000 Authorities Deployed to Help Protect Private Property

PHNOM PENH: As Cambodia celebrates Khmer New Year over the next three days, more than 2,000 authorities will be deployed in Phnom Penh to provide security for the people. Still, authorities are reminding all citizens to be vigilant against thieves breaking in and stealing valuables.

Phnom Penh Municipal Police spokesman Lt. Col. San Sok Seiha confirmed to EAC news that more than 2,000 authorities will be patrolling the area to maintain order during the Khmer New Year.

The Central Security Department advised citizens traveling to resorts or to their hometowns to double-check that doors and windows are locked before leaving their homes.

For those staying in the capital, he asked that citizens act in the spirit of being a good neighbour, relaying any suspicious activity they witness to the relevant authorities. He noted some specific examples of suspicious behavior such as unidentified people riding around to scope out the area, people moving items or boxes from residences in secret or during strange hours, and people trying to hide their identities with masks, hats and sunglasses.

He went on to stress the need for close communication between the neighbors in order to help keep the area safe and help others.

The Central Security Department also told all private security personnel, especially those standing at the entrances of Boreys or residential areas, to pay close attention to any unfamiliar vehicles or people who cannot identify the residents in the neighborhood they are claiming to visit.
